Hello!Our Mission:
Our goal at DATA is to help all our students become successful learners. DATA is a high achieving and innovation magnet school where students, community, and staff collaboration secures an authentic learning experience. Together, we support an inclusive environment focused on relationships in order to develop skills for a global society. Major Emphasis of the Course: The goals and objective of the courses align with the Common Core California State Content Standards. These content standards can be accessed at www.cde.ca.gov/be/st. In addition to course work and tests, benchmark assignments will be used to assess student attainment of the standards. Course Expectations: All DATA teachers expect students to conform to the VUSD Attendance Policy, Standards of Student Behavior and Conduct, Dress Code, and Academic Honesty Policy. These policies can be found on the VUSD website at www.venturausd.org and in the Parent-Student Handbook. Course of Study and Targeted Standards Through close reading, rhetorical analysis, discussion, research, and written response to selections of fiction and fnonfiction this chronological survey course covers California Department of Education 6th-8th grade reading, writing, speaking, and listening standards. Absences Regular attendance contributes to the development of work habits and skills which lead to student mastery of content. When a student is absent, he/she misses valuable class discussion, instruction, and learning. Homework Policy Homework will be given throughout the week with a designated due date. Assignments will consist of reading, response to fiction and informational text. Students will also be expected to work on several projects during the year that may require time at home to complete. Assignments that are not completed in class will also be considered homework. Classroom Norms Mrs. Zahn's Classroom Expectations Be safe. Be Respectful. Be kind and polite. Be on time. Be positive. Raise your hand to talk or share. I encourage my students to always do their best. We use the C.H.A.M.P.S. behavior management program in the classroom in order to promote a positive learning environment for all. C.H.A.M.P.S. let’s the students know: the conversation level, how to get to help, what the activity is, movement expectations, and who is participating. If all the expectations are followed, students will be successful. Students are not allowed to wear hats, chew gum, or use cell phones during class. Students are also expected to come prepared to class every day. Computer Norms
